What are stretch marks?

Stretch marks or striae, form when a skin stretches faster than it can adapt. This causes a collagen and elastin fibres to break creating thin scars in the deeper layers of skin.

At first stretch marks appear red, purple or dark due to the underlying blood vessels.Over time, as the skin heals they lose colour and become light or silvery. They can also feel slightly raised, indented or thin due to changes in the skins structure.
